Salzburg tightened corona measures again – SALZBURG24
After the Corona traffic light in Salzburg has been lit “red” again since yesterday, the reins are now being tightened. As the State of Salzburg confirmed on Friday morning, the FFP2 mask requirement will be extended to retail for customers and body-friendly services from Monday until further notice. In addition, “even stronger quarantine controls in particularly affected areas” were announced in a broadcast.
Corona exit tests in St. Koloman
Due to the high number of infections and the lowest vaccination rate in St. Koloman, the decision was made in consultation with the health authorities and the mayor to impose travel restrictions, said Salzburg Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) on Friday morning. In this way, the chains of infection are to be effectively interrupted. “We are currently monitoring the dynamic infection process in Tennengau very closely,” said LH Haslauer and LH-Deputy. Christian Stöckl (ÖVP) in a broadcast. Anyone who is fully immunized or recovered or who can present evidence of a negative PCR test that is valid for 72 hours is allowed to leave the country.
Stricter measures in St. Koloman
- Exit restrictions initially from October 18 to October 31
- 2.5 G rule – fully immunized, recovered or PCR-tested (valid for 72 hours)
- Police control the exit restrictions
- Additional test option
- Additional vaccination campaigns
- Strengthened controls on quarantine regulations
- Freight traffic is exempt from the 2.5 G rule
Lowest vaccination rate in the state
“This will undoubtedly be a challenge for all affected citizens and commuters, but also for everyone who helps and is involved in handling the exit restrictions,” explained Haslauer. Nevertheless, this consistent measure is urgently needed to contain the infection again.
As things stand at present, the population in St. Koloman has the lowest vaccination rate of all municipalities in the country, at 41.7 percent of the total population and 48.5 percent of the vaccinable population aged twelve and over. According to state statistics (as of October 15, 8:30 a.m.), the 7-day incidence in the municipality is 1,122. Six municipalities in Tennengau have a 7-day incidence of more than 400. In seven Salzburg municipalities, the vaccination rate is below 50 percent. In addition to St. Koloman, the three Tennengau communities of Krispl, Scheffau and Kuchl as well as the two Flachgau communities of St. Georgen near Salzburg and Faistenau and the Lungau community of Muhr are affected.
“Vaccination masters” are the two Pinzgau communities of Dienten (75.9 percent) and Rauris (70.7). In Dienten there is a district doctor, “informs, organizes and vaccinates diligently,” the mayor Klaus Portenkirchner (SPÖ). It is very positive that the young people from Dient also opt for the vaccination.

Differences in incidence
According to the country, there has been an enormous difference in the seven-day incidence between vaccinated and unvaccinated people for weeks. “Statistically speaking, the typical infected person in Salzburg is 15 to 19 years old and not vaccinated,” says Gernot Filipp from the state statistics and adds: “In this age group there is currently an incidence of 796, compared to 110 for those who are fully immunized.”
2,432 new corona infections on Friday
The Ministry of Health reports 2,432 new corona infections in the last 24 hours on Friday. In Salzburg, the seven-day incidence of 212 is also the second highest in Austria.
The difference has increased since the start of immunization. “Currently the value for the state for the fully immunized is 75; it is 400 for people without a vaccination, which is more than five times,” calculates Filipp and explains: “The number of infections is still very much dependent on the vaccination rate in depending on the age groups. ” The vaccination coverage of the total population of Salzburg is 59.2 percent. For comparison: the Austrian average is 61.5 percent.
Corona situation in the hospital
The situation in the hospitals is currently relatively stable. However: There is again a slight increase in the number of Covid patients in the hospitals. On Friday, 47 Covid 19 patients were in the hospital, 13 of them in the intensive care unit. This trend could continue in the coming days due to the development of the number of cases.
Highest incidence in Tennengau
The regional spread of the infection has increased even further. In 104 of the 119 parishes in Salzburg there is currently at least one active case. For a few days now, Tennengau has had the highest incidence of deaths in the total population with 402, in Flachgau it is also well above the national average at 269, and in the city of Salzburg it is considerably lower at 179.
In the Lungau, the value has risen to 268 in the past few days. In Pongau (109) and Pinzgau (73), on the other hand, the infection rate is still very moderate.
