Portugal has already supported the formation of two special options companies in Mozambique
This year Portugal has already supported the formation of two Mozambican Special Forces companies, mobilizing 60 soldiers for that African country, the Ministry of National Defense (MDN) announced this Friday.
At issue is the formation of the company of Marines of the Mozambican Navy, in Katembe, which ended on September 10, and of the company of Special Hunters of the Army, in Chimoio, which ended this Friday.
The training of these two Special Forces companies of the Armed Forces for the Defense of Mozambique (FADM) was carried out under the so-called “Project 6” of Cooperation in the Defense Domain (CDD), aimed at training and capacity building for FADM to combat terrorism , explains the MDN, in a statement.
The note mentions that to develop Project 6, which preceded the training of 11 Special Forces companies (Fuzileiros and Comandos), Portugal made available 60 soldiers in Mozambique, triple the number of soldiers assigned to the remaining 5 CDD Projects and quadrupled the presence of Portuguese advisors in the country.
This reinforcement of bilateral cooperation was reflected in the new Framework Program for the period 2021-2026, signed by the Ministers of Defense of Portugal and Mozambique, in May 2021″, explains a note.
The project involved an annual MDN investment of more than three million euros.
Once the training of these two companies has been completed, the intervention of the Portuguese military advisory will now continue within the framework of the European Union Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM – European Union Training Mission Mozambique), with other skills and equipment, with the Council of the European Union having adopted , today, a decision that formally launches that Mission”, completes the note.
