The Autobahn 7 between Hildesheim and Hanover will be renewed in the coming years. A first construction site has been set up and work has now started in the southern area.
In the first construction phase alone, from the Hildesheim-Drispenstedt junction to the north of the “An der Alpe” car park, around 230,000 square meters of concrete pavement will be renewed over 7.2 kilometers. First, the road surface will be renewed in the direction of Kassel, then in the direction of Hanover. The concrete is excavated, processed on site with the help of a crushing and mixing plant and some of it is recycled. According to its own information, the responsible Federal Autobahn GmbH works 15 months for this work. Shifts are possible depending on the weather.
Three construction phases for 21 kilometers of road
Overall, the road surface between Hildesheimer Börde and the Hanover South triangle is to be modernized in three construction phases. The route is 21 kilometers long. “The concrete carriageway on this section of the A 7 was built between 1990 and 1992”, says Sebastian Post, head of the Bad Gandersheim branch. The roadway has to be renewed not only because of its age and condition, but also because of the increasing traffic games.
Two lanes in each direction of travel, a third if necessary
In order to avoid traffic jams, traffic should be guided in each direction on two lanes around the respective construction sites. Depending on the load, an additional lane is to be opened on one side over the median, i.e. the motorway company. In particular, the commuter traffic between Hildesheim and Hanover should be relieved.
