Out of reach: The goals in rental housing are being missed by a long way in Salzburg

The housing subsidy has come to an end – the numbers in rental housing are shockingly low. In any case, more than 40 million euros remain from the budget this year as well.

So there is currently almost no groundbreaking in subsidized rental housing in Salzburg.

In November 2020, the subsidy rates in the housing subsidy were significantly lifted. In May 2021, a further increase was decided at a housing summit in order to cushion the high construction prices. This was to prevent rental housing construction from coming to a standstill.

But that is exactly what happened. The goal of building at least 650 apartments this year is a long way off. A mere 183 units were guaranteed by the end of September. Housing Councilor Andrea Klambauer (Neos) emphasizes that some areas would work very well. …
