BAG records 952 new infections and seven deaths
The decline in the number of corona cases is flattening out: the number of cases reported by the BAG on Friday is about the same as it was a week ago. According to Swissmedic, every third of the almost 8,800 undesirable side effects of the Covid 19 vaccination evaluated so far is serious. The overall benefit of the vaccination is undisputed.
In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) was notified of 952 new coronavirus infections within 24 hours on Friday. At the same time, the BAG registered seven new and 22 hospital admissions.
A week ago, 968 new coronavirus infections were reported within 24 hours. There were also three new facilities and 20 hospital admissions.
For every 100,000 inhabitants, 143.62 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus infections were reported in the last two weeks. The reproduction number R, which indicates the average number of people infected by an infected person, was 0.89 around ten days ago.
The utilization of the intensive care units in the hospitals is currently 74 percent. 14.9 percent of the available beds are occupied by Covid 19 patients.
61.5 percent double vaccinated
A total of 10,291,600 vaccine doses had been delivered to the cantons and Liechtenstein by Wednesday evening. This means that 10,825,881 doses had been administered by Friday morning. 61.52 percent of the population are fully vaccinated. This is still one of the lowest vaccination rates in all of Europe. So far, 6,724,553 certificates have been issued for fully vaccinated persons.
33,280 people have so far been treated in hospital for Covid 19 disease. The number of cases in connection with a Covid 19 disease is believed to be 10,791.
The therapeutic products authority Swissmedic has so far evaluated 8,757 reports of suspected undesirable side effects after Covid-19 vaccinations. Accordingly, 66 percent were classified as not serious and 34 percent as serious, as the authority announced on Friday.
Studies: Not related to vaccination
In 150 of the serious cases, people died at different times before the vaccination. These people were on average almost 80 years old. In none of the cases was there any concrete evidence that the vaccination was the cause of the death, writes Swissmedic.
Most of the suspicious activity reports (6021, or 68.8 percent) related to the Moderna vaccine. With around 66 percent of the vaccine doses used, this is the most frequently used vaccine. 2,578 or 29.4 percent of the suspicious transaction reports related to the active ingredient from Biontech / Pfizer, and die in around 34 percent of the total number of vaccine doses distributed in Switzerland. For 158 reports (1.8 percent) there was no information about the vaccine used.
This finding does not change anything about the overall positive benefit-risk profile of the vaccines used in Switzerland, it said.
