ALL ANTWERP: “I am half Indian, but I would never … (Antwerp)
Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a casual passer-by off the street for a nice conversation. Want everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Arthur Verreydt (20)
Elien Van Wynsberghe
“My name is Arth. That’s an Indian name. I am half Indian. I was born and designed here but my mom lives in India again. She is originally from Mumbai. Two years ago I traveled through India for half a year. I like to be there but absolutely could not live there. It’s way too hectic. You never have rust. Especially if you are set up here, it is best to be there.”
“This summer vacation mom has been visiting here for two months. In India, corona still has an ugly house. Mama has been in her apartment for almost a year and a half. She only comes out to buy food. She can do nothing else. With us, corona is largely behind us, but in other places in the world that is not yet the case at all.”
“I live in Antwerp myself. I study painting at the Academy of Fine Arts. I am now in my second year and mainly figurative work. I hope one day I can get into a gallery. Very few are allowed that, I know that somewhere. I try not to work too hard on that just yet. After all, I am still studying hard.”
