INNSBRUCK. Franz Jirka has been the WK district chairman for Innsbruck since October 15, 2020. For around 18 years he has been active as a WK functionary in the interests of the business location’s entrepreneurs. In his balance sheet and outlook, Jirka sees a large number of “construction sites”.
There are 8,919 Chamber of Commerce members in Innsbruck. 3,462 are employers and 1,876 people are doing apprenticeships. Innsbruck has a total of 56205 employees. The tasks for the district office of the WK are correspondingly diverse. In addition to the range of services and information, Jirka also sees political representation as an important task.

City marketing carried out a development process both in terms of the “Alpin urban” brand and the task at hand. The resolutions of the new budget and the number of employees are still pending. So far, around 1 million euros in budget and 2.5 employees were planned, in the future the budget should be 4 million and the number of employees will be between 6 and 7. Jirka not only criticizes the lack of a political decision but also the departure of Bernhard Vettorazzi. “Vettorazzi has his last working day at the end of February, but the position has not yet been re-advertised,” says Franz Jirka. “The question arises as to whether Vettorazzi should not stay in office and play a decisive role in shaping the future of city marketing.”

The Rossau industrial area has long been a problem child and is under special observation by the district chairman. Thanks to the representation of Dieter Unterberger and Markus Dax and their preparatory work, there is at least a little movement in the direction of urban politics. Nevertheless, there are some problems that urgently need a solution, such as the traffic situation. A small glimmer of hope are the corresponding improvements in public transport with the route in Rossau. The period for the development of the Rossau location offensive in two years IS viewed extremely critically. “Dieter Unterberger and Markus Dax have done extensive preparatory work and instead of waiting any longer, politics in Rossau could have been active for a long time”, Jirka. The Stadtblatt article on the “Stadtblatt vor Ort” event in the Rossau industrial park can be found here.

Franz Jirka sees the St. Bartlmä cultural quarter as a great opportunity. “There were no honest negotiations and the parties show no commitment,” explains Jirka on the subject. “The House of Music has invested a lot of money for high culture. In the same way, culture could also be promoted for the youth and. The cultural quarter would actually be a sure-fire success,” says Jirka of the creativity concept. The district chairman not only sees the city’s promise to ensure a successor to the port, but also warns of a loss of image among the students: “Other cities continue to expand their offerings for students, Innsbruck is instead in sleep mode.”

Innsbruck’s old town shows itself with the surface in an appearance that the city does not deserve. Jirka is aware that the subsidence of the construction work will be awaited whenever a corresponding visual improvement can be initiated quickly. The envisaged public participation process for the surface design must be quick and unbureaucratic. “The history of the citizen participation processes in Pradl and St. Nikolaus have shown that they take many years and that the end result does not meet expectations”, Jirka remembers the weaknesses of such citizen participation. When it comes to events, Jirka praises the innsbruck @ night event, which was organized by city marketing. One downer for Jirka is the lack of a concept for the side streets in Meraner Strasse.

The real construction sites, there are currently around 60 road construction sites in the city. According to Jirka, better coordination and coordination are within the scope of the possibilities. The WK is also eagerly awaiting the construction site concept 2022, which is to be presented in November.

“This political spectacle is not worthy of the city of Innsbruck,” Jirka criticizes the political demeanor of all parliamentary groups. “A city cannot be governed like this,” explains the WK district chairman. Political behavior is shaped by the Mikado game with the motto “whoever moves first has lost” as well as a subliminal permanent election campaign. The ongoing party politicization of individual issues is counterproductive and in many cases leads to a standstill or stalemate. “City politics must be aware of its responsibility towards citizens and entrepreneurs and act”, is Franz Jirka’s mandate.
As part of his preview, Jirka requests the use of the pavilion according to its original order. “It was created as a restaurant and should be a restaurant,” Jirka is surprised at the ongoing discussion. “In such a beautiful place there can be no shortage of gastronomic concepts. The Redesign of the Bolzano Square is not meant to be ready for Jirka. “How should the entrance to the city garage and the new one
designed Bozner Platz works? “, says Jirka. With around 880 parking spaces without multiple occupancy of a space, 1,760 trips through the new Bozner Platz concepts are possible Bus parking Jirka looks indispensable. “We are talking about a value added of 90 million euros by the bus tourists”, Jirka brings the corresponding figures into play. For the district chairman, tourist access via Maria-Theresien-Straße to the Golden Roof would be ideal. “But you need a central bus parking lot to get on, whether underground or above ground,” Jirka notes. Despite all the problem areas, Franz Jirka sees an end to an improvement in the exchange of communication between the WK and the city of Innsbruck. If there are even sporadic meetings, the involvement in certain development and decision-making processes has improved.
