State of energy alert in the Republic of Moldova: Europa FM
The Republic of Moldova declared a state of alert in the energy sector on Wednesday to avoid a possible crisis. Citizens will not be affected by decisions.
The state of alert will allow the authorities to take certain measures, such as removing a quantity of fuel oil from the state reserve.
The Commission for Exceptional Situations of the Republic of Moldova decided on Wednesday to declare a state of alert in the energy sector, in order to avoid a possible crisis.
According to Unimedia, on alert all energy institutions will have clear tasks: fuel oil will be released from the state reserve to reduce natural gas consumption, and Energocom is mandated to initiate negotiations with the neighboring state on alternative resources.
As for Russian gas, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development in Chisinau, Andrei Spanu, said that “The price proposed by the Russian side is not acceptable for the Republic of Moldova.”
On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is ready to increase gas supplies to Europe if it so requests, rejecting suggestions that Moscow would limit these supplies for political reasons. He demanded, however, that European countries conclude long-term contracts with Gazprom.
