San Marino. “The confrontation with the government on the reforms is completely at a standstill”
“The Executive Council of the Confederation of Labor met for the whole day today, exactly one week from the beginning of the cycle of Federation Congresses, which will be followed by the 20th CSdL Congress, scheduled for 11 and 12 November at the Palace Hotel in Serravalle, on the theme “The value of work”.
I refer it to a press release. “Before addressing the aspects related to the Congress, the CSdL Secretary Giuliano Tamagnini launched an alarm on the situation of total stalemate in relations with the Government on the reforms and on the main issues of the country, starting with the public debt caused in large part by the disasters banking. “With the exception of meetings scheduled for the next few days on sustainable development and the labor market, no discussion table has been called for months now; and so of tax reform, revision of the pension system, situation of the health system, transition from single-phase to VAT, etc., we have no news. “
“The impression – underlines Giuliano Tamagnini – is that the parties of the government majority are more committed to settling their internal diatribes than to address the problems of the country and carry out the important necessary reforms”.
As regards the congress process that is reaching the crucial phase, the Board has carried out an evaluation of the preconvention assemblies on workplaces with workers from all sectors. A cycle of very participatory assemblies, in which there was a wide sharing of the contents of the basic document of the 20th CSdL Congress.
Strong interest and concern on the part of the workers expressed towards the economic repercussions of the failures of the banking sector, which give rise to an enormous public debt as a result of which the State has resorted, without any sharing by citizens, to international debt, with the 150 million loan from Cargill and the 340 million in debt securities placed on the international market. Loans which, moreover, cost the community, this year, at least 30 million euros only in interest and brokerage costs.
Most of these resources have already been allocated to cover the liquidity needs of the banking system, primarily to the Cassa di Risparmio and the Central Bank, while very little has been allocated to the economy, to promoting employment and supporting workers. most affected by the pandemic.
The same workers stressed that it is unacceptable that of the over one billion public debt generated by the management of the banks that has produced an enormous amount of NPLs, no one responsible has yet been identified to answer both on a criminal and economic level.
In relation to the reform of the pension system, workers agree on the need for this issue to be tackled jointly and concurrently with other reforms such as taxation, taking into account that resources will be needed in perspective for an overall level of qualified and efficient well-being.
The achievement of equity is the precondition for fiscal full economic intervention by the State both in the pension system and in the public health system, as well as to deal with the serious debt situation of the public budget. In this sense, the CSdL Directive relaunches – as already unanimously agreed at the institutional table in autumn 2019 – the objective of aiming for a balanced state budget in the next financial years.
The CSdL Board has therefore – after the message sent last Monday to the CGIL Secretary General Maurizio Landini – its full solidarity with the Italian General Confederation of Labor, whose national headquarters was violently attacked last Saturday by a neo-fascist formation, thus hitting one of the symbols most important of the trade union movement and democracy of the Italian state.
The CSdL will participate with some of its own representatives in the great unitary demonstration of CGIL, CISL and UIL scheduled for Saturday 16 October in Rome, to say no to fascisms and in support of reforms, rights and contractual renewals.
“The squadron assault on the national headquarters of the CGIL – write the leaders of CGIL, CISL and UIL – is an attack on the entire Italian confederal trade union, on the world of work and on our democracy. We ask that neo-fascist and neo-Nazi organizations be placed in the conditions not to harm, dissolving them by law. “
