After several years of preparatory work, the restaurant, built with the help of Hungarian experts and using green technological innovations further developed with domestic ideas, is used in both environmentally conscious solutions, whether available or accessible in hospitality.
In the Drive Thru restaurant, opened on Kishegyesi út in Debrecen, the hot air sucked in by the extractor hoods of the ovens through a heat exchanger helps to efficiently heat the heating system. operating in KFC. Prior to wasting drinking water, the plants are irrigated by collecting rainwater, while conducting water heating through the condenser system of the refrigerators and then up. Similarly, they provide the restaurant’s interior lighting from a green source, which solar panels are installed by the elderly in an energy-efficient way. In addition, an intelligent building operating system has been built in, which can adjust the performance of air exchange systems and utilize preheated exhaust air. The intelligent system can achieve savings of 15 percent compared to the current KFC standard.
“It is no secret our goal that, based on the experience in Debrecen, we will introduce the most efficient developments, step by step, to our other restaurants as well, or we will count on those new ones already during the planning process. Although the innovations are almost unnoticeable to our guests, they can also monitor the instantaneous energy savings on an external monitor. ”Emphasized Nándor Juhász, Marketing Manager of AmRest Hungary, which operates Hungarian KFC restaurants, at the opening on October 14.
The specialist added that, like all their restaurants, Debrecen uses only degradable paper-based packaging materials and wooden cutlery, Shake and ice cream cups are made from 50 percent recycled plastic, while packaging materials also prefer recycled paper. In addition, AmRest is constantly expanding the Harvest program to its restaurants, and would like to run it with the Hungarian Food Bank Association in order to reduce food waste. In the program, KFC saved 26 tons of chickens from discarding this year and delivered them to those in need through the Food Bank’s partner organizations.
KFC is also not actively seeking contact with the local community. As a result, it will be involved in the creation of the city’s Green Event Container through the Future of Debrecen program, financing 50 percent of the cost. The mobile event venue will be powered by solar panels, and the associated green plant wall will help with local air purification.
