According to the organization, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the rule of law deteriorated in almost half of the world. In this case, the worst situation is within the limits of government reinforcements, public space, their ability to do justice and non-discrimination.
In particular, in 82% of the surveyed countries within the heritage participated in one dimension of civic space (citizen participation, freedom of belief and election, freedom of assembly and association), and in 94% of countries there was a review of administrative, civil or criminal proceedings.
The world is the first in this history to be published since the announcement of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, and it demonstrates many negative trends that are deteriorating during this period, the WJP said.
“Given the negative trends in many countries, this historic WJP Rule of Law Index has three-axis signals for all of us. Supremacy is the foundation of shared justice, opportunity and measure. Changing that foundation is a priority for the immediate post-pandemic renewal period,” he said. and WJP CEO Bill Neykom.
According to human rights activists, the largest improvements in legal rights over the past year occurred in Uzbekistan (4.1%), Moldova (3.2%) and Mongolia (2.0%). Belarus (-7.5%) and Myanmar (-6.3%) became the countries with the largest decline in the rule of law in the last year. Nigeria, Nicaragua, the Kyrgyz Republic and Argentina rank third for the fall (-3.7%).
