A strange grumble caused a stir in Hanover. An earthquake or target practice? The search for the cause is ongoing …
Hanover. Suddenly it rumbled … In Hanover, several citizens reported on a mysterious quake on Wednesday afternoon (October 13, 2021).
Apparently, not only the districts of Neustadt, Langenhagen and Isernhagen were affected – windows are also said to have shaken in other communities, such as in Uelzen. That reports die “Hannoversche Allgemeine“.
Strange noise in Hanover: attempts to explain
The deep rumble is said to have lasted for several seconds. A thunderstorm did not move over the city at this time. Larger flight movements were also not described.
On Facebook, Twitter and Co., there was of course a lot of speculation about the cause. However, the fire brigade and police in Hanover did not register any alarms. Means: The case remains mysterious.
In the meantime, two causes can be ruled out: On the military training areas in Bergen and the Ostenholz Moor, maneuvers took place that day, but in the afternoon the target practice was already completed.
An earthquake is also ruled out. Monika Bischoff from the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR): “Seismic activity can occur in the Hanover region, but we won’t find anything for Wednesday afternoon,” she told the local newspaper. Your guess: possibly a supersonic flight. But so far there is no evidence for this either.
Grumbling in Hanover – “Windows shook”
Ear witnesses report the mysterious grumbling on Facebook:
- “Here in Fuhrberg you could even notice it on the floor and the windows were shaking.”
- “Strangely enough, we also had vibrations in Altwarmbüchen and Varrelheide at the same time, our living room door hummed for a long time.”
- “In Neuwarmbüchen I could only hear a strange grumble. We were amazed and couldn’t assign it. “
A really logical explanation is not yet for the loud noise. It is still unclear whether it was actually a supersonic flight. (mt)
