From silver in Sweden and straight to Paris
Malene Bakken is chasing enough distance races to be able to fight for the EC and WC place. Then it is good to have a solid support device in the back.

In the paper newspaper, the two skilled trainers with the first name Ellen in the equestrian community were changed. We’m sorry, but here’s an updated case right Ellen.
The 15-year-old from Erland in Tysværvåg participated last weekend in the popular distance race «Dackeritten» in Växjö in Sweden. The rider from Indre Haugaland Ryttersportklubb and the horse «Shanameh» impressively big and finished only nine seconds behind the Swedish winner Ebba Bota and the horse «Wentyl du Bienn». It was not so wrong to believe Malene.
– No, we could probably have reached the finish line first, but I received a team order not to ask the finish line with the horse. This 100 kilometers is very important to complete and get approved. To get to the European Championships and the World Cup, I have to e.g. Have a permit to ride 100 kilometers and 120 kilometers.
– How long was it in Sweden?
– It was demanding because the horse absolutely wanted to sprint away. I had to use force to hold her back. But I had a fantastic support system in mum and dad and the Ydstebø Suhr family, which helped me to have full control. Was probably oak who was most tired, smiles the distance rider who also got good help from his friend Live Søgnstad.
The two crews followed each other closely and it was at last that the Swede took the chance and moved past. In distance races, there is veterinary control both during and after all races. Horses that are unable to recover, or that are lame, will not be approved.
Right on the plane
Malene Bakken did not get many hours of break before moving on to a short stop at Ullared before he was at the airport in Copenhagen with a ticket to Paris.
– Tell me?
– I have been so lucky that I have been able to borrow the horse for trainer and rider Tonje Danielsen in Oslo and will ride a new 100 kilometers in Paris, Friday morning. I have seen «Cath Cash», but never ridden the horse so it will be exciting. Once again, the goal is to get approval. If I can do it, I will start the hunt for the 120 kilometers, where I will ride my horse «Shanameh». One must use the same horses at 120 kilometers as in the championship.
– What do you know about the voice in Paris?
– That is the biggest thing I have been involved in at least. I think there are about 80 crews registered in my class. Then it is important to find a good group, be tactically wise and do what I have to do to get approved. I have talked a lot with Ellen Ydstebø Suhr who owned my horse before and who is both trainer and mentor for us. Now I have to show that I have learned some of what she has taught me. This is going to be incredibly nice, says Malene Bakken.
Thus, the young girl has to go out for another six to seven hours on horseback.
– There is a lot to think about along the way and it is important to listen to the horse and follow how it is doing. Last weekend I think it was absolutely crucial for me to struggle a bit with the hall. Now fortunately Tonje Danielsen is with me and will ride with me, and that is why I am also for the first time in the senior class. We probably could not have taken the chance otherwise, says Malene who is in 10th grade at Tysværvåg children’s and youth school.
My cheers
At home in Tysvær, there are many who are proud of local achievements at the moment. Tenant Laila Nemeth cheers on Facebook and congratulates one by one.
In addition to Malene’s silver in Sweden, show jumper Ida Tørresdal would not be worse.
The Straumen girl took the silver with her in her silver tour class in the race with the horse «Ladtlover», and got a 6th place in the 1.20 class with the horse «Justin Beaber». Both performances took place at the big jumping event Oslo Horsesshow at Fornebu Arena.
– We are incredibly proud of our girls who have been out and about and impressed. Her time has also been a great mood that has experienced great instant results on the results list, but also in mastery. It is only to congratulate everyone with fantastic achievements and as a great ambassador for Tysvær, says Nemeth.
