Christmas markets: dates confirmed in Luxembourg and neighboring countries
During the health crisis of 2020, the Christmas markets were canceled. They are coming back this year in lighter versions. Here is the list of declared markets.
The festivities surrounding Christmas are the stuff of dreams for young and old, no matter what. In 2020, with the health crisis, the Christmas markets could not take place. In 2021, many cities have decided to revive these moments of sharing.
Obviously, many health rules will be respected, but the magic of Christmas will be there.
Here are the declared dates of the markets in Luxembourg, Metz, Nancy, Strasbourg, Brussels, Ghent and Bruges. We have selected a few markets in Germany.
In Luxembourg
The Luxembourg Christmas market will take place from Friday 19 November 2021 to Sunday 2 January 2022. Christmas events are part of an event called “Winterlights”; a festival of light and entertainment that characterize the heart of Luxembourg City during Christmas.

Feast of St. Nicholas
Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) is considered to be the most festive city on the day of Saint Nicolas. Well-off visitors by the hundreds of thousands to attend the festivities en masse. A large parade is usually organized through the streets of the Old Town to the famous Place Saint-Stanislas. They will take place on December 3, 4 and 5, 2021. The Saint-Nicolas parade will take place on Saturday December 4 from 6 pm from Place Carnot to Place Stanislas.
In Germany
Cologne
Am Dom Markt in Cologne – November 22 to December 23, 2021. Am Dom Markt takes place at the foot of the famous Gothic Cathedral, a UNESCO World Site.
Trier
Trierer Weihnachtsmarkt- November 19 to December 22, 2021. The Trier Christmas Market is one of the most romantic fairs set in front of the city’s charming cathedral.
Frankfurt
Christmas market in Frankfurt – from November 22 to December 22, 2021. The Römerberg market offers hundreds of wooden huts in the historic center of the old town.
Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt – November 26 to December 24, 2021. Germany’s most famous Christmas market, this must-see Bavarian event has been taking place for 4 centuries.
Finally, the Christmas market in Munich a place on Marienplatz square. There is even in a street of Munich, the largest specialized market of nurseries in Germany. Everything is there to make an authentic crib to your taste. It will take place from November 22 to December 24, 2021.
