“Respect the history of the place and the heritage”
The building, whose first stone was laid on September 29, 1823, is not undergoing its first restoration..
“The building has undergone several renovations in its history, 196 exactly since its birth. However, it has never been the subject of a rehabilitation project of such magnitude. Everything has been redone or almost, only the original masonry has been kept. The philosophy of the project was to respect the history of the place and the heritage: namely an Italian-style theater from the 19e century, of which nothing has been disfigured ”, underlines Frédéric Roels, director of the Grand Avignon opera house.
