Zoo animals in Salzburg celebrate Halloween
Many are already counting the days. Only two more weeks of when and die-hard horror fans wait until that night of nights when ghosts, witches and monsters make their grand entrance.
Animals in Hellbrunn Zoo get orange visitors
In order to shorten the waiting time a little, some animals in the Salzburg Zoo were already able to look forward to a visit in the form of a pumpkin head. This was either filled to the top with the favorite goodies, optionally also without content, according to a press release.
Curiosity and fun on short-term Halloween
For penguins, otters and co. It was already “Pumpkin Ahoy” in mid-October. And while the otters Baba and Maxi tested with growing enthusiasm how well the orange, ball-like something could be converted into a toy, the necks of the penguins were apparently dying longer and longer. This was due to the mixture of natural skepticism in view of the creepy pumpkin head, which is eerily in the middle of its system and great curiosity due to the obviously tasty content. What to do when caution and hunger are in balance? Very simple: Always keep a safe distance and move your neck and beak forward as far as possible.
Armadillo or Pumpkin?
On the other hand, the two porcupines, in contrast to the skeptical tails wearers, had far less fear of contact and joined forces to tackle the pumpkin. On the other hand, the viewer of the spherical armadillos quickly comes up with the idea that the savannah dwellers from South America wanted to compete with the pumpkin. As the name ball armadillo suggests, it refers to the ability of this exciting and ancient species to curl up in danger. Since the body of the ball armadillos is covered with a shell made of horn plates, as soon as the primeval journeymen come together to roll a ball, possible predators hardly have a chance to get at their chosen prey. And so suddenly two ball-like structures lying next to each other could be seen – one orange and one brown.
Creepy event in the Salzburg Zoo
“So perfectly attuned to the scariest night of the year, we are very much looking forward to this year’s Halloween, because our traditional event ‘Pumpkin Head and Witches’ Broom’ WILL take place again after a one-year break,” reveals Managing Director Sabine Grebner. The gruesome rendezvous will begin at 3:30 p.m. on October 31, 2021 at Salzburg Zoo. More information can be found here.
