The University of Zurich and ETH Zurich are among the ten best universities worldwide in the blockchain sector. This is the conclusion of a study of a total of 230 universities around the globe by the US platform Coindesk, which specializes in crypto topics.
The University of Zurich ranks fourth among the best “blockchain universities” and is therefore also the best-placed European university, as the study published at the beginning of October shows.
Singapore at the forefront
The authors of the study from the University of Singapore selected the achievement from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the California Berkeley University as the best “Blockchain University” worldwide.
One place behind the University of Zurich is the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in fifth place. Meanwhile, ETH Zurich has to give way to several Chinese universities and the UCL University of London and makes it to tenth place. The ETH Lausanne (EPFL) ranks 21st.
Important: courses
The selection criteria are based on the information on the author of the study, according to the information, on the one hand on the academic influence of the universities, measured by the number of publications on the topics of blockchain or crypto currencies as well as the citation frequency, but also on the general academic reputation of the university.
Another important criterion was the breadth of the courses on blockchain topics, including the specific special research institute. The level of tuition fees and the employment prospects of graduates are also included in the assessment.
