One after the assassination of Samuel Paty, the Departmental Council of Haute-Garonne will pay tribute to him this Friday, October 15 in Toulouse.
On October 16, 2020, Samuel Paty, professor of history and geography in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, in the Paris region, was assassinated by an Islamist terrorist. Almost one after this drama which deeply marked the country, the Haute-Garonne Departmental Council will pay tribute to the memory of the teacher this Friday, October 15.
A commemorative tarpaulin in front of the Hôtel du Département
Georges Méric, president of the community, will notably unveil a commemorative tarpaulin at the entrance of the Hôtel du Département, in Toulouse, with a message of homage to Samuel Paty. A text also addressed to “the whole of the educational community which works on a daily basis, within the republican school, for the former citizens of tomorrow”, indicates the Department.

In addition, in the afternoon, Vincent Gibert, vice-president in charge of Education, will participate in the inauguration of the Samuel Paty room at the Pierre Mendès France college in Labarthe-sur-Lèze, in the presence of in particular the rector of the Toulouse Academy Mostafa Fourar. The board of directors of the college has indeed decided to baptize the class council room with the name of “Samuel Paty”, whose plaque will be revealed this Friday.

“It is our duty, as elected representatives of the Republic, to commemorate the memory of Samuel Paty, whose mission was to transmit knowledge, former of critical, free and emancipated minds. Murdered for having practiced his profession as a teacher, within the secular and republican school, Samuel Paty has become a symbol, ”assures Georges Méric.
