There is a risk of a shortage of toys at Christmas
business
Like many other industries, toy retailers in Salzburg suffer from delivery problems for goods from Asia. Bottlenecks are emerging just in time for the important Christmas business. Retailers recommend buying toys in October or early November if possible.
A toy store in Radstadt (Pongau) has already been awarded twice as the best specialist toy store in the German-speaking region, but recognition in does not help with delivery bottlenecks – the company is no different from many of its colleagues.
Bottlenecks due to few available containers
The toy industry is currently suffering from delivery problems from the Far East, confirms dealer Eva Oppeneiger. “There are simply too few shipping containers available, making it difficult to ship the goods to Europe.”
Delivery bottlenecks are particularly evident in the case of toy cars
The majority of toys now have to be produced in Asia because the wage level in Europe hardly allows production here. With a view to Christmas, delivery problems for toy cars, for example, could make it scarce. “We are already advising our customers that they should reserve or buy Christmas presents now if there are requests. The goods are running out, the Christ Child may have to say that the goods are not available, ”says Eva Oppeneiger.
Too few shipping containers: Toys are getting more expensive
The lack of sufficient shipping containers will make toys up to ten percent more expensive this year. The inflation also affects the dealers when shopping, and of course also the customers at the checkout.
