The HiLASE laser center near Prague is celebrating ten years. During that time, it broke four world records – ČT24 – Czech Television
Since its foundation, Tomáš Mocek has headed the HiLASE center, which is part of the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences. Under his leadership, the idea was transformed from a project application into a truly functioning laser center, which is currently one of the world’s leaders in the field of laser technology.
The idea to build a national platform for the development of new laser technologies arose at the beginning of the millennium. In addition to Tomáš Mock, Euro Managers, especially its project manager Lukáš Masopust, is behind the establishment of the HiLASE Center. Together, we are trying to turn their ambitious laser center plan into a real project application. This was approved by the authorities in September 2011.
Masopust joined HiLASE in the same year and currently holds the role of Deputy Head of the Center and also heads the Project Management Department. “For me, the HiLASE: New Lasers project for industry and research was not only interesting, but also a big challenge. I am glad that I accepted this request and I have been a part of everything happening since the beginning of the existence of the HiLASE Center, “comments Lukáš Masopust.
In 2012, the foundation stone was laid and the first construction works began. The HiLASE building can be completed in the summer of 2014 in September of the same year.
The superpowered laser was named after the Czech Hercules
Meanwhile, scientists are already in the British Council for Scientific and Technological Equipment (Government Agency for Science and Research, editor’s note) with the generous help of the HiLASE team, they worked on building a unique super-powerful laser system, which was subsequently named Bivoj – after the famous strongman from Czech myths and legends.
