Taste the French cuisine of the Center-Val de Loire in Portugal
The gastronomic event “Goût de / Good France” begins this Thursday in Portugal, after a year of interregnum, which celebrates French cuisine. From the 14th to the 22nd of October, the best of what is made in the Center-Val de Loire region will be highlighted in restaurants in the Mainland, Madeira and the Azores.
In a statement, the organization of the event mentions that this sixth edition, which takes place simultaneously in other parts of the world, “represents an expression of France in the five continents, and in particular of the cultural and culinary heritage of the highlighted region”.
Twenty-two national spaces participate in this gastronomic festival. Participating restaurants are invited to offer their customers a “French-style” menu for more than a week. This event is also associated with hotel schools and stores that offer French products to their customers.
According to the French diplomatic representation in Portugal, the Center Val-de-Loire region “is the symbol of the French art of living”. It was from this area that, through the European Institute of History and Food Cultures, an application for a French gastronomic meal to the Intangible Heritage of Humanity came out.
In Portugal, the menus that are served, chefs are encouraged to adapt their proposals, to the flair of the Irish French region cuisine. The menus feature a starter, a main course, cheese and a dessert.
The ambassador for this year’s initiative is Christophe Hay, a French chef who has already earned two Michelin stars and who leads the team at the restaurant La Maison d’à Côté, in Montlivault. Christophe Hay is presented by the festival organizers as “the leader in sustainable and sensitive gastronomy, inspired by Mother Earth”.
“Goût de / Good France” is also betting this year on an environmentally friendly one. The communiqué states that “in order to show how committed the event is to the environment, “Goût de France / Good France “will once again place responsible gastronomy at the heart of this new edition”.
