The Energy Globe environmental prize is awarded worldwide. The best projects from Salzburg have now been presented by LH-Deputy. Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens) awarded.
The Woerle cheese dairy in Henndorf supports its dairy farmers with 50 euros per ton of CO2 saved. The farmers themselves choose measures, for example energy-efficient milking and milk cooling systems or heat recovery from the milk. The “CO2 Account” project started in mid-January 2021, and more than 100 projects have already been submitted and some have been implemented. Woerle competes in the national competition as the overall winner in Salzburg.
One of the award winners is the ÖAMTC with its new base in Saalfelden, the first energy self-sufficient and blackout-safe base in Austria. For energy generation and storage, the ÖAMTC relies on a photovoltaic system on the roof, a brine heat pump and a lead-carbon battery storage system. The self-sufficient system generated 24,603 kWh of electricity from April to September. The consumption was 24,145 kWh.
The Piesendorfer Senoplast Klepsch GmbH uses recycled, processed material for plastic films and sheets. As a result, 18,000 tons of CO2 saved.
Maria and Matthäus Wimmer, chairman of the Schleedorf water cooperative, received another award for inventing the aquasafe hydrant seal. This prevents water loss in the public network if hydrants are improperly closed. The Schleedorf water cooperative has saved around 20 million liters of drinking water per year with 16 hydrants. A total of 2000 hydrants are now equipped with the seal. Total saving: 2.3 billion liters.
