Kalafatis: Message of unity of determination Greece today stronger than ever
Events for the 109th Anniversary of the liberation of the city of Grevena from the Turkish yoke, were attended today by the Deputy Minister of Interior, responsible for Macedonia and Thrace Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, as a Representative of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
After the Official Doxology that was performed in the Holy Metropolitan Church of Evangelistria, officiated by His Eminence the Metropolitan of Grevena Mr. David and the memorial prayer, followed by the laying of wreaths in the central square of Emilianos. In his greeting, Mr. Kalafatis stressed:
“Today we honor all those who fought and achieved the liberation of Grevena.
We honor those who continued, a century after the beginning of the Greek Revolution, the struggles for the liberation of our still enslaved lands.
We honor – as this year marks the 200th anniversary of the National Uprising – all those who surpassed themselves to liberate and surrender a free Homeland.
We draw strength and teaching from their example at the same time. That we are not envisioned on the basis of numbers, but with the power of the soul. That the Greeks, divided, mourn tragedies, but together we achieve miracles. That with faith in the ideals of the Nation we can make it possible, where others consider it impossible.
From the city of Grevena, we send at the same time a message of unity and determination to the would-be unrest of our neighborhood, to our conspiring sovereign rights.
The Greeks survived the peace and cooperation with the people of our neighborhood. But in the face of repeated challenges from the east, arbitrary disputes and claims, we had only one answer: In our national issues we have drawn clear red lines. And from these lines we do not take a step back.
We insist irrevocably on International Law and the UN Convention that clearly enforce our rights to our land, air and seas.
We strengthen and lead the international alliances of our country. And we are proud to have reached the Agreement with our friend and ally France. An Agreement that provides – and is of major importance – military assistance in the event of an external attack on land or our warships at sea. An agreement that passed the supply of 24 modern aircraft, provides for the acquisition of 3 state-of-the-art frigates. An Agreement that brings Greece and France to the forefront of the common vision for a strong and defensively self-sufficient Europe.
Greece today is a proud country, with national confidence, with a vision and plan for the future. A country that is taught from the past and moves on to tomorrow with sure and solid steps. A Homeland that we want to serve with all our strength.
Happy birthday to all and everyone “.
