Prague – At the branch of the city library in Prague’s Korunní Street, today representatives of the Jaroslav Foglar Scout Foundation unveiled a fifth bench dedicated to the famous writer and scout leader with the nickname Jestřáb. The latest piece is reminiscent of Foglar’s novel The Mysterious Raspberry. Roma Šantor from the foundation stated during the unveiling that the aim of the foundation is for each of the writer’s novels to have its own bench in Prague.
Foglar’s fans lay on the wooden bench and it is decorated with carved Pacific motifs, reminiscent of the fictional board game Fan-tan from the novel Mysterious Řásnovka. Šantor added that an information board will be added to the bench within 14 days.
Foglar never specified where the mysterious Řásnovka was supposed to be, the childhood and much of his life spent in Korunní Street. Šantor reminded that in the book the author described a memorable groove on the wall, which is located just near the current branch of the library. The revelation was also attended by the director of the Municipal Library, Tomáš Řehák, who is also the chairman of the foundation board of the Jaroslav Foglar Scout Foundation.
The foundation has already placed a bench in Riegrovy sady in the metropolis, reminiscent of the novel Boys by the Beaver River. Another is dedicated to the book Cottage in the Lake Basin and is in Havlíčkovy sady, the third recalls the Mystery of the puzzle and stands on the playground Za Haštalem in Prague 1. Another foundation bench placed on the playground by the Little River in Stromovka.
Foglar was a prominent figure in the scout movement. For most of his life, the boys’ section led the Prague Two and his educational program inspired several generations of scout leaders. During his life he wrote dozens of books, including Quick Arrows, Boys from the Beaver River, Cottage in the Lake Basin, Mystery Puzzle and many others.
