In Rouen, a Norman protests every Wednesday against the establishment of an Amazon warehouse in Petit-Couronne
An inhabitant of Notre-Dame-de-Bondeville, alone or almost, every Wednesday, against the American online retail giant Amazon. François Vaillant, 70, activist at MAN, the Movement for a Non-violent Alternative, has decided to come every Wednesday between 5 pm and 6 pm, in Rouen at the “Théâtre des Arts” bus stop.
He’s standing here, like a sandwich man, with two signs on the front and back, and leaflets, to protest against the project to set up an Amazon site in Petit Couronne. A gigantic warehouse, of 50,000m², is to be built on the site of the former Petroplus refinery, and ship 330,000 packages per day. The Metropolis voted against this project last fall – but because of the fire risk – but in March the prefect of Seine-Maritime has given his approval.
François has therefore decided to mobilize, and he hopes that others will join every Wednesday.
Passers-by getting off the bus brush past it, but few read its signs. The first two Wednesdays, François was alone, but this Wednesday, four other people are places to help him. And he intends to come back every Wednesday to the Théâtre des Arts (except if it’s raining heavily).
