The Rector intervenes in view of the ceremony on October 19 together with the former minister, at the forefront of international peace and dialogue “Hosting Andrea Riccardi, who has distinguished himself not only in the scientific and academic fields, but also for his activity on social issues burning, it means confirming and continuing to see us and effectively in the path that time involved in initiatives and courses aimed at social commitment “. Thus the Rector of the University of the Republic of San Marino, Corrado Petrocelli, intervenes in view of the participation of the historian, former Italian Minister for International Cooperation and Integration, at the inauguration ceremony of the Academic Year 2021-22 of the University of San Marino. During the event, scheduled from 3 pm on Tuesday 19 October at the Kursaal Congress Center, Riccardi will give a lectio magistralis and will receive the title of honorary research doctor in Historical Sciences.
“Inviting a witness of this caliber – explains Petrocelli – seemed congruent to us in the light of initiatives and projects such as our recent willingness to host Afghan students, the collaboration with the NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans on the theme of migrants and the organization of the conference Designing Civic Consciousness ”, with the in 2018 the Titan welcomed designers, philosophers and historians from all over the world to discuss civic education and its perspectives. “Riccardi – finally recalls the Rector – has already been involved in our activities as a teacher of the Higher School of Historical Studies”. President of the Dante Alighieri Society and founder, in 1968, of the Community of Sant’Egidio, he received a series of awards due to his commitment to peace and dialogue, also with mediation roles for the resolution of conflicts on the African continent and in Central America, such as the Charlemagne Prize. On the occasion, it was defined as “an extraordinary example of civil commitment in favor of a more humane and supportive Europe within and beyond its borders”.
