Every third traffic accident is handled by the police in Prague and its surroundings
And during the reference period police officers in the Central Bohemian Region recorded 6826 accidents. If the data from last year consider the statistics to be one hundred percent, for this year the results of the difference index of 102.9 – which means three percent protection. In this mathematics, the capital city of Prague may appear more favorable: police officers in metropolises were called to 8102 cases, but the index indicates a year-on-year decrease: 95.7. By the way: for the whole republic, there were no changes when the index reached one hundred; in the case of 45 391 recorded accidents. It follows, among other things, that in the capital and its Central Bohemian surroundings, one in three crashes occurred: 32.9 percent. In terms of consequences for life or health, the Central Bohemian (995) and Prague (621) road painters were together at most every fifth accident on a national scale.
However, according to police analysts, it would be longer problematic to draw conclusions from comparing Prague with its surroundings. From the point of view of road transport, these are actually two other worlds. In the metropolis, it breaks down in a smaller area, usually at lower speeds, but again at higher traffic densities. The nature of the vehicle fleet is also reflected in the number of reported accidents: if no one was involved in the accident, only less damage occurred, and only on the vehicles of the actors, it is not their duty to call the police. Even in any case, however, it often happens that some of the drivers insist on the participation of uniforms – and it does not have to be just because they cannot agree on who is to blame. Calling the police in all circumstances and then submitting their report may be a condition given by the lease, insurance – or, for example, the rules for the use of company cars.
The number of casualties in the region decreased, the damage increased
The Central Bohemian figure on the number of accident victims appears to be relatively “favorable”, although 39 people died as a result; most of all regions. However, the year-on-year index shows a decrease: 86.7. Prague had an index of 100; ten dead just like last year. Injured statistics are reported in Central Bohemia by 1228: 116 severely and 1112 easily. In the metropolis, paramedics helped 703 patients; 46 of them suffered a serious injury and 657 a minor one.
Material damage in Central Bohemia and in Prague climbed over half of production. In the region to 504.8 million (with an index of 109.8) and in the metropolis to 598.1 million (with a steady state index of 100). Together, this represents 37 percent of the total damage calculated within the republic.
Most accidents around Prague
It is sometimes tricky to compare other individual Central Bohemian districts. They differ in size, population, the density of the road network and the main routes – and last but not least, the distance from the capital; it also plays a role. As well as, for example, the different character of the winter season, let’s say in the Kolín and Příbram regions. The highest index of the minimum number of accidents is reported in Rakovnicko, Mladoboleslavsko, Prague surroundings, Mladoboleslavsko and Nymburk. On the other hand, the decrease was recorded in Příbramsko, Mělnicko and Kladensko. Drivers crashed the most (in terms of the number of events) in the vicinity of the metropolis, in the Mladá Boleslav, Benešov and Příbram regions.
