Safety at Luxembourg has spoken extensively about the public debate in recent weeks. In particular since the various various facts which shook the district of the station of the capital.
“Yes, crime exists in Luxembourg”
The Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, is aware that a climate of insecurity is gradually installed among the inhabitants. But in his State of the Nation speech on Tuesday, October 11, 2021, the politician expressed his wish to deal with it. “There must be no place in Luxembourg where one does not feel safe,” he said.
Even if he recognizes that “crime exists in Luxembourg” and that it is “often concentrated in a few parts of the country”, Xavier Bettel reaffirmed his desire “that the rule of law can fight effectively against this crime. But the subject, especially in the station area, has many facets ”.
Massive recruitment into the police
To do this, the Prime Minister announced that measures would be implemented “to help all the inhabitants of the neighborhoods concerned”. This includes in particular a reinforced police presence in the field or new social tools to help people in need.
To increase the presence of the police, Xavier Bettel announced that “by 2023, we are massively considering, either 600 police officers and 240 civilians ”. Not to mention the drug policy that the Prime Minister wants to deepen by taking into account the preventive and repressive aspect.
All of these measures will be approved at the next Government Council before being presented to the public.
