He still dies unnecessarily from bowel tumors

Last year, prevention was partially reduced. Do we already have to make up for delays in cancer patients?
For the most part, yes. The number of preventive examinations is growing and we are returning to normal levels, as we were used to.
What are Czech patients like?
Generalization is not appropriate. Some are exemplary, some are too anxious, some are not interested in prevention at all.
For which oncological diagnoses is it the most dangerous?
Probably the biggest reserve is in the prevention of colon cancer. Preventive examinations, in contrast to the prevention of breast or cervical tumors, are relatively unpleasant and demanding on the patient’s motivation. At the same time, mortality from colon tumors is still quite high in the Czech Republic. There is definitely room for improvement here.
What do you think is basic care for your own health?
There are thousands of tips for a healthy lifestyle, many of which contradict each other or change over time. From the point of view of oncological prevention, we recommend a few other rules: do not smoke, move, not be overweight, watch your birthmark and go to prevention.
Last year, a pandemic tested the Czech healthcare system. How do you personally perceive his level?
The Czech healthcare system survived exceptionally during the pandemic. Provides high quality care for reasonable money. Let’s be glad it’s the way it is.
Every move counts!
Corresponds to: Doc. MUDr. Martin Matoulek, Ph.D., 3rd Department of Internal Medicine, General Hospital and 1st Medical Faculty, Charles University
How is our population doing with movement in connection with the diseases of civilization?
Due to the locking of the situation in the population is deteriorating, we have reduced the size of the ordinary family by 30%, sports by 90 – 100%. It has only been very slow in recent weeks. However, the population “carried away” will lose weight and, of course, lose the fitness that most influences the health prognosis, especially at an older age.
What sports do you recommend for people with overweight, diabetes, high blood pressure?
It does not have to be directly about sports, it is enough to increase the number of procedures per day, indulge in longer walks. However, even a diabetic and a patient with high blood pressure can strengthen slightly, and can even play sports. In this case, he should consult a doctor and monitor his blood and blood pressure and blood glucose levels in connection with exercise. He can also use the Health Time application to do this.
How often should we move to improve our health?
Every move counts. But clear data is when physical fitness rises. This increases optimally with a minimum frequency of “training” or physical activity 3-4 times a week. For seniors, shorter training units are more advantageous, but daily.
A good background helps with stress

Has our mental health and well-being deteriorated since last year’s experience?
Overall, this cannot be stated unequivocally, but it is true that the “covid period” had an impact on many people’s mental state – mobile mental discomfort, longer alcohol consumption, greater dependence on the Internet, which in many people has an impact on deteriorating mental well-being. In addition, it turns out that many people have “experience” with the so-called postcovide syndrome, which has various manifestations, including mental.
A team of doctors from the VFN Psychiatric Clinic also conducted a survey of the effects of the pandemic, what did it bring?
It turned out that on the one hand the number of control examinations in psychiatric outpatient clinics decreased, on the other hand the patients who came mostly complained of depressive or anxiety states. Of the thousand respondents, almost ten percent suffer from severe depression. Another twenty percent of doctors diagnosed mild to moderate depression. About 3.5 percent of people have a high level of anxiety.
How to maintain mental well-being?
A lot depends on how each of us lives. It is an indisputable fact that people who have built up a good partnership, work, leisure and social background make living in life more mentally resilient and better manage stressful situations.
Blood is irreplaceable in treatment
Corresponds to: MUDr. Daniela Dušková, Ph.D., Head of the Faculty Transfusion Department of the General Hospital
Why donate blood and who can become a donor?
Blood and transfusion products made from it are still an irreplaceable part of the treatment of many diseases. Without voluntary blood donors, it would not be possible to treat many chronic diseases, perform acute and planned surgeries, provide care during and after childbirth, and so on. Any healthy person aged 18-60 who weighs at least 50 kg can become a voluntary blood gift.
How should a voluntary blood donor take care of himself?
Before each donation, the donor of blood and blood components undergoes an examination by a doctor directly at the transfusion department, who also assesses whether the donation of blood can adversely affect the health of a particular gift and whether the collected blood cannot harm the recipient. The donor should not have alcohol, cigarettes or fatty foods immediately before donating blood or blood components, and should be taken rested. After collection, it is advisable to take a minimum of physical exertion, countdown and replenish fluids.
Early diagnosis is essential
Corresponds to: MUDr. Marek Fichtl, Department of Ophthalmology, General Hospital and First Medical Faculty, Charles University
What role does prevention of eye diseases play?
There are eye diseases that need prevention. Smoking, overweight and high cholesterol predominate at risk. Prevention is above all a healthy lifestyle.
What is our population like?
Not all eye diseases can be prevented by prevention, so early diagnosis is needed. Many people experience their first vision problem around the age of 40 – they stop seeing well at close range. The situation is quickly resolved by prescribing minimal spectacle correction, but only a comprehensive eye examination can detect other eye diseases, such as glaucoma.
If you buy the first reading glasses at the drugstore, you run the risk that you need eye disease may not be detected. As part of preventive examinations, the possibility of eye examination of patients aged 45 to 61 is newly included.
