Toulouse: the poster war at Jean-Jaurès University after the collage of Eric Zemmour’s militants
During the night from Sunday to Monday, Generation Z activists put up posters at the University of Jean-Jaurès. A “provocation” for many student associations.
“This is the first time that the far right has stuck so many posters here.” Stupid at the beginning of this week at the University of Toulouse Jean-Jaurès. During the night from Sunday to Monday, about twenty activists from Generation Z, an independent movement in support of Eric Zemmour, stuck posters on many expression boards. In the faculty, historically anchored on the left, this bonding action was experienced as a provocation for many associations.
“It’s an affront,” says Alberta Nur, a philosophy student and member of the Le Poing Levé collective. Éric Zemmour’s ideas have nothing to do with this campus. This face is in the middle of working-class neighborhoods, it welcomes immigrants, homosexuals, transgender people… These posters go against the population who study there ”.
By Monday morning, the Generation Z collages had all been torn off or covered up. In recent days, stickers bearing the effigy of the polemicist were sporadically stuck in the university. If the hegemony of the left in Toulouse Jean-Jaurès is not called into question, “these posters announced that the extreme right is today uninhibited”, according to Alberta. After the fact, the war continued on social networks, where pro Zemmour militants increased their provocations.
“It’s not a provocation”
Generation Z Occitanie claims its propaganda operation. “We also put up posters of Eric Zemmour in the two other universities in the city. Our activists who study in Jean-Jaurès suggested that we go there in order to repeat the operation in their faculty, ”defends Vincent, the regional leader of the movement.
He would like to point out that this is not “a different provocation to what has been written on social networks”.
“We wanted to remind people that this university is not a bastion of the extreme left. The majority of opinions are important, ”says the head of Generation Z Occcitanie.
In the administration offices, we keep calm. displays. Posters are pasted. Others will cover them up ”. Upon entering university, a tag now warns that Zemmour is not welcome. The future presidential elections promise to be hot in the university.
