the world circuit will make a stopover in Toulouse in 2022
The French stage of the world Sevens rugby circuit, organized so far in Paris, will take place in Toulouse in 2022, according to the calendar unveiled on Tuesday by World Rugby. The Ernest-Wallon stadium, home of the Toulouse Stadium, and theater of the exploits of Toulouse Olympique XIII last weekend, will host from 20 to 22 May the penultimate of the ten men’s stages of the circuit and the last of the seven women’s stages.
The only French tournament on the calendar has been taking place since 2016 in the Jean-Bouin stadium in Paris. “It will be very interesting to take the world circuit to new venues in Spain and France,” World Rugby Managing Director Alan Gilpin said in a statement.
Toulouse, new host alongside Malaga and Seville
The Andalusian cities of Malaga and Seville will host the circuit for the first time, which will start in Dubai at the end of November and end in London in May. After two last editions heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers expect a return “at full speed” for 2022.
“A unique mechanism has been developed to take into account the risk that some teams may not participate in all tournaments,” however, said the governing body of world rugby.
