Sevens rugby: the world circuit will stop in Toulouse in 2022
Interrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the competition resumes in November in Dubai. For the first time, Toulouse will be one of the stages on the calendar: the French women’s and men’s teams will perform at the Ernest-Wallon stadium, from May 20 to 22, 2022.
The French stage of the world Sevens rugby circuit, organized until then in Paris, will take place in Toulouse in 2022, according to the schedule unveiled by World Rugby on Tuesday.
From 20 to 22 May, the Ernest-Wallon stadium, home of the Toulouse stadium, will host the penultimate of the circuit’s ten men’s stages and the last of the women’s seven stages.
The only French tournament on the calendar has been taking place since 2016 in the Jean-Bouin stadium in Paris.
“It will be very interesting to take the world circuit to new venues in Spain and France,” World Rugby Managing Director Alan Gilpin said in a statement.
The Andalusian cities of Malaga and Seville will host the circuit for the first time, which will start in Dubai at the end of November and end in London in May.
After two last editions heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers expect a return “at full speed” for 2022.
“A unique mechanism has been developed to take into account the risk that some teams may not participate in all tournaments,” however, said the governing body of world rugby.
