The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has canceled the results of Russian athlete Olga Zaitseva at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. In the modified finishing protocols indicated that this was done within the framework of the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The IOC redistributed the results of the 4×6 km women’s biathlon relay at the Sochi Games. Then the Russian women’s team, in which Zaitseva ran, took second place. Now, after the results of the Russian biathlete were canceled, the Norwegian team – Fanny Birkeland, Tiril Eckhoff, Ann-Christine Flatland and Tore Berger – won silver medals.
Bronze medals were won by the Czech team, which included Eva Puskarchikova, Gabriela Koukalova, Jitka Landova and Veronika Vitkova. Gold was then taken by the Ukrainian team – Vita and Valentina Semerenko, Yulia Dzhima and Elena Belosyuk.
On September 24, 2020, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) partially upheld Zaitseva’s appeal against her disqualification for an anti-doping rule violation. The athlete was found guilty of changing the urine test and using a prohibited substance.
