The Okolo gallery in Prague hosts the exhibition Bending on Paper with the omnipotent subtitle Furniture Drawings from the Ton brand archive. On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the brands and the creation of the book, hand-drawn sketches and technical drawings of furniture from lesser-known and well-known designers, such as Miroslav Navrátil, were discovered in the brand archives.
“A completely brilliant execution of technical drawings of furniture motivated us to search once more in the archive and to exhibit in the galleries Around a sample of these extraordinarily precise furniture designs. The exhibition Bending on Paper thus presents several such drawings that were created in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, mainly within the framework of the ÚBOK furniture competitions or the Ministry of Consumer Industry and the national company Ton. The vast majority of these designs have never been realized, “says the curator of the exhibition, Adam Štěch.
“Technical drawings from the Ton brand archive represent a progressive modernist design by the leading creators of the time and completely forgotten architects. However, all of them have in common an exceptional artistic prowess and timeless design reflecting the current trends of international post-war design at the time. This is one of the reasons why these designs are still forgotten in the Ton brand archive and are still waiting for their full evaluation, “he adds, adding that the exhibition is open until November 9, 2021.
