Parliament approves hearing of the president of idD – Portugal Defesa – Observer
This Tuesday, the Assembly of the Republic approved the hearing of the president of idD – Portugal Defesa, Marco Capitão Ferreira, on the management and hiring of this containment which manages public holdings in companies in the Defense sector.
The application presented by the PSD was approved this Tuesday afternoon by the National Defense Commission, with favorable votes from the PSD, BE and CDS and abstention by the PS.
In the presentation of the initiative, a Social Democrat deputy Ana Miguel dos Santos began by pointing out that the knowledge plan about the Defense industries sector that should be drawn up by the idD president is not yet known, nor is the last accounting report for 2020, ” That should already be approved by legal imposition”.
“And the news that we know about IdD is really a set of appointments and hirings that even go a little bit in counter-cycle with what was reflected in the order of the Minister of National Defense that said, regarding the information of idD even before 2019, that it would mean cuts and a greater rationalization of the structure”, he pointed out, ironically saying that the company currently “has more management loads than workers”.
The deputy also stressed that the party wants to know what state an idD is in, but also Arsenal do Alfeite, which for several years has been in serious financial difficulties.
For the PS, deputy Diogo Leão began to say that it seems that the PSD “has little to be clarified”, due to the considerations he makes of this containment, but added that the socialists recognize the “usefulness” of hearing the idD president in parliament “about the way he manages his business structure”.
the deputies João Vasconcelos, from BE, and Pedro Morais Soares, from CDS-PP, considered that the hearing in question was justified, given the importance of the sector and the matters in question.
The request presented by BE, which intended to hear Defense Minister João Gomes Cravinho, on the hiring of the former president of Arsenal do Alfeite as an idD advisor ended up ‘failed’ with votes against the PS and CDS and in favor of the PSD and SER.
According to a news released on October 7 by the TSF, the former president of Alfeite José Miguel Fernandes – who resigned from his position in January this year, claiming “personal reasons” – was hired to advise idD – Portugal Defense, containment which manages public holdings in Defense companies.
In discussing the application, deputy João Vasconcelos recalled another controversial situation, that of Alberto Coelho, name targeted in the audit of the General Inspection of Defense on the overrun of the cost of requalification of the former Hospital Militar de Belém, which was returned to the position of General Director of National Defense Resources and months later appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors of EMPORDEF – Information Technologies.
Ana Miguel Santos, from the PSD, was favorable to this audition, the responsibilities that the government has in this sector. The PS and CDS, on the other hand, found it useful to hear from the idD president on the issues under debate in the defense minister’s resolution.
