Opening of the Mega Gallery: Michal Škapa / Situation – Prague 2
Galerie Mega brings the 9th exhibition entitled SITUATION in the lobby of the Karlovo náměstí metro station. The author of the new exhibition is Michal Škapa. The Mega Gallery is a street art gallery located directly in the lobby of the metro. Non-traditional space and the connection of street art with public space are closely related. The goal of the Mega Gallery is to show the general public both young artists and familiar faces and thus spread awareness of street art in the Czech Republic. The whole gallery works to connect these worlds and tries to support the street art community. Breaking down borders and educating passengers who rush to the subway. Michal Škapa, as a representative of the first generation of Czech graffiti writers, penetrated galleries throughout the Czech Republic a long time ago. In a few days, his large exhibition will end in the legendary Špála Gallery, which was opened for the first time by street artists. A few days ago, he completed his next mural in Olomouc and during September also in Čáslav and Dresden. He is assisted in his work by the people around him, but his unwavering will and desire to work is incredible. Together with the curator Ondřej Klíma, he prepared an exhibition for this young street art gallery, so that it would follow its roots and also try to break the space of the “shop window” and once the vacuum that the exhibition space represents. The basis for this almost twenty meters of installation is CHROME (silver spray), which TRON covers practically everything that came its way. He moved mannequins and other fragments from everyday life into the narrow exhibition space, which he supplemented with neon lights, with which he has been working for a long time. He played out four life situations (Writer) and thanks to them he turned the gallery into one pulsating image. This pictorial scene is complemented by his specific spray drawing. He paints missing or non-existent fragments of the picture, letters, flowers. And also lines that are drawn directly on the glass of the gallery, so that the image is as layered as possible. The exhibition also includes a large canvas created especially for this exhibition in a combination of chrome and black.
