The idea comes from Austria, but it quickly established itself in Munich during the corona pandemic: Hundreds of bars and restaurants have increased their free bar areas in front of the house. Often, THEY have converted parking spaces for this, demarcated them with pallets to the street and also equipped them with radiant heaters, SO THAT the outdoor catering can stay open even in colder weather. The idea was so well received that the city council has now decided to stick to the pub gardens even after Corona.
Extension also for radiant heaters and city terraces
The city council had already decided in May that the pub gardens could continue to exist, but only from April to October. This year, however, they should be allowed to remain open until the end of November. Because, so the reasoning of the green-red majority of the city council, because of the pandemic it is still useful to keep distances, and outdoors the risk of infection is also proven to be low. Eco-electricity-powered radiant heaters are also to remain permitted until the end of November, as are the city terraces on public areas.
Not popular with everyone
With the residents of the district with many pub gardens, the additional free bar areas also repeatedly caused complaints, be it due to noise or the lack of parking spaces. On Tuesday (October 12th, 2 p.m.) the district administration committee will vote on the request to extend the pub garden season.
