Direct flights from Prague to New York will be resumed the following year
“The renewal of direct flights to New York, which was one of the most attractive long-distance flights at Prague Airport in 2019, is excellent news, especially for all Czech passengers, who will be able to enjoy convenient and fast connections to the eastern edge of the United States after two years. Before the current summer crisis between Prague and New York, more than 70,000 passengers every year, which represents a strong potential for year-round direct connections with Prague, “said Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prague Airport.
Renew lines to New York was also welcomed by the director of the CzechTourism agency, Jan Herget, who described it as essential. “We will be able to drive to the permanently limited tourists from the US, whom we enjoyed as destinations before the coronavirus crisis. Very creditworthy tourists from the United States are welcome clients of entrepreneurs in tourism not only in Prague, but also in other regions, “said Herget.
The airport is interested in renewing other long-distance lines. Of the original fifteen long-distance air connections that Prague Airport acquires in 2019, routes to Dubai and Doha are currently in operation. During the winter, new charter flights will be added to more distant exotic destinations. Before the crisis, summer also flew from Prague to Philadelphia, to Newark Airport in the state of New Jersey, and a route to Chicago was also planned.
In August, Prague Airport handled almost 700,000 passengers, which is 102 percent more than in the previous year. Compared to the pre-crisis period, however, it is a decline of 65 percent. However, despite the latest application, air traffic is still well below the numbers before the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the coronavirus crisis last year, Prague Airport lost 79 percent of passengers compared to 2019 after years of record passenger numbers. In total, it handled 3.66 million, which means that in the last 25 years.
