Corona figures in Brussels remain stuck on a high plateau – Belgium
(Belga) The corona figures in the Brussels-Capital Region remain high, but the situation does not appear to be getting worse. Nearly 70% of the population over the age of 18 had a first shot, according to a state of affairs from the Joint Community Commission (GGC).
The incidence, which is the number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants, in Brussels is 455 in fourteen days. The age group where the reactions are now turning into positive reactions are the 30 to 39 year olds. The number tested and also the positivity ratio is decreasing and now stands at 6%. All these figures together mean that the R-value is now 0.92, head of the Brussels health inspectorate. “That is lower than 1, which in itself is positive, but it remains a high level, so we remain attentive.” In terms of hospitalizations, some 55 people are currently in intensive care, with some 15 deaths in the past seven days. In total, 69% of all Brussels residents have now received a first shot, 66% have already received two vaccinations. “We continue to gain a little ground every week,” says Neven. 80% of the most vulnerable age groups have now been vaccinated and the situation of Neven is also evolving well among young people, thanks to the various ones that have been set up. For example, flyers have been issued in Brussels Central Station for the past ten days and since yesterday you can go to the health insurance agency in Anspachlaan to get vaccinated. The GGC works closely together in partnership with the municipalities and local actors and focuses on pharmacies as a storage and application point for the vaccination points in the neighbourhood. This includes schools, buses, antennas and general practitioners. With regard to vaccination in schools, more than 10,000 students between the ages of 12 and 17 have been vaccinated since its inception. Good for an increase of 12% (from 24 to 36%). “We have invested a lot in informing and raising awareness in the schools, with very good results,” says Inge Neven. For the third booster shot on October 14, the residential care centers will make the first deliveries. There is also the possibility to vaccinate people and staff who have not been vaccinated.
