VIDEO: YouTubers play Squid Game on the Meir | Antwerp
AntwerpA few videos are circulating on TikTo about a game of ‘ddakji’ on the Meir, the game with the participants in the popular Netflix series Squid Game being recruited. The game was able to attract a lot of spectators: participants received 10 euros for a win, a (soft) slap in the face for a loss. Behind the challenge were YouTuber Acacia Jr. Mbenga (21) and his cameraman Dilan Van Linden (24).
Last Saturday, YouTubers pulled Acacia Jr. and Dilan Van Linden to the Meir. She has made it impossible to play ‘ddakji’, a game from the Squid Game series. The goal of the challenge? If someone could turn the red card over with the blue card, he got 10 euros. If not, the contestant – as in the series – gets a slap in the face.
“Of course we were aware that going too hard on this and getting violent, so we gave it a gentle tap to stay in the theme.” “We are all film students, and saw more of it as a social experiment to see how much appeal the series actually has. To be honest we couldn’t watch. There are even so many people that the police have come or we have not spoken too loudly. (laughs) Luckily she agreed, so our games didn’t stop.”
Bigger price
All participants only got one chance to win 10 euros. “We are shocked by how popular the challenge is, with young and old alike. We plan to start making an episode about all from Squid Game, such as 123 piano, 20 subscribers to Acacia Jr. will compete for a greater prize. That could be a cash prize, but we’ll have to reconsider: we don’t make anything from YouTube, so we’re doing everything with our own money at the moment. The participants will already start not be afraid to suffer during the games, it all remains innocent. (laughs)“
The full video can be viewed from Monday evening on the channel of Acacia Jr.
