Toulouse: English fan fatally hit on the ring road after TO XIII-Featherstone match
An English supporter of the Featherstone rugby union team was fatally struck in the middle of the night by a car in Toulouse while trying to cross the ring road on foot, a police source was informed on Monday.
“The man, of British nationality and aged 51, wore the jersey of the English rugby union club Featherstone Rovers”, which lost Sunday evening against the Toulouse club TO XIII at the Ernest-Wallon stadium, which borders the fast lane, the police source told AFP.
“According to the first accounts, the man was alone and tried to cross the lanes of the inner ring road. He was struck by a female driver,” she added.
The Briton died on the spot, found the emergency services arriving at around 1am.
The young driver was taken to hospital in shock “and will be questioned later as part of the investigation, the police source said.
This Sunday, Featherstone and Toulouse were vying for the ticket to the rise in the Super League next season. Toulouse have won and will compete for the first time in their history in the toughest rugby league in the northern hemisphere.
