The decline has subsided: weddings in southern Moravia are increasing, mostly in Brno and the Brno region
Juraj and Denisa Jakubik, for example, exchanged rings. They got married in August in Kníničky in Brno. The original June term was canceled due to government restrictions. “At the end of April, the situation seemed rather uncertain. We did not know whether our relatives from Slovakia would be able to arrive, what the overall restrictions will be and what the permitted capacity will be. That’s why we moved the wedding, “said the newlyweds now.
The higher number of weddings is related to the relaxation of pandemic measures. From January to June this year, according to statistics, 1,771 weddings took place in South Moravia, which is 116 more than in the same period of the previous year. “There were six hundred and ten marriages in the Brno-město district, which is based on 3.2 marriages per thousand inhabitants,” specified Karel Adam from the regional administration of the Czech Statistical Office in Brno.
Numbers of weddings in the South Moravian Region in the 1st half of 2021:
– 610 in the district of Brno-město
– 319 in the district of Brno-venkov
– 160 in Blansko
– 169 in Břeclav
– 208 in Hodonín
– 134 in Vyškov
– 171 in Znojmo
The organizer of the Brno wedding festival, Ivu Vinkler, for example, is enjoying an improving situation. She told the daily Rovnost that many couples are already inadvertently waiting, expecting a baby, or being born during a pandemic. “In addition, they are now willing to spend more money on a wedding than last year,” says the organizer.
The great interest in the ceremonies was confirmed by the spokeswoman of Brno-Wednesday, Kateřina Dobešová. She reminded that the period between April and September is traditionally used by others. 384 pairs said “yes” there this year, which is about forty more than last year. According to a spokeswoman for Dobešová, a new trend is also obvious. “These are the weddings of couples who, as people say, lived on a dog book. The pandemic forced them to reconsider their priority, “added Dobešová.
A similar situation prevails in other Brno city districts, as well as in other South Moravian cities.
