RTL 5minutes – The galley on the roads: More traffic jams than before the crisis in Luxembourg?
Are the traffic conditions in Luxembourg more difficult than before the appearance of the coronavirus? Zoom on the latest indicators of traffic trends.
Endless lines of lit brake lights, fog, tired motorists and a long day ahead … No doubt, it’s fall. And it gets stuck again on the roads of Luxembourg.
Moreover, many of them assure it every day: the crisis is over. At least that’s what the traffic state says. According to TomTom’s measurement tools, the rush hour traffic congestion the week was overall more important than in 2019. In other words, the circulation is deteriorating.
Over the first eight months of the year, the counters of the Bridges and Roads always report less traffic than two years ago. But for how long ? With the advance of vaccination, allowing the return to the office of many employees (who will soon be subject to CovidCheck), but also the Olympic form of the labor market (attracting more and more new employees), there is no doubt that traffic conditions will become more complicated for thousands of motorists.
Since mid-September, the traffic estimated by TomTom in the Grand Duchy has been appreciably close to that of 2019, already very important. The week of September 13 of this year, the level of congestion was 6% lower (compared to 2019). Next week ? 8% lower. Then 10% more after, and only 2% difference from October 4 to 10. And this Monday at 8 a.m., TomTom assessed traffic congestion at 85%, against 68% in 2019 and 48% in 2020.
According to the Traffic Index created by TomTom, each motorist loses around four days and nine hours a year in traffic jams in Luxembourg.
