This Tuesday, October 12, 2021, a civil security exercise will be organized at the BASF plant located in Boussens, under the aegis of the prefect of the Upper Garonne.
Dangerous products for the environment
The company in question is one of the sites classified as high threshold Seveso in Upper Garonne. BASF produces raw materials and natural ingredients for the cosmetics and detergents industry in particular. It is classified as high threshold Seveso because it uses products classified as dangerous for the environment, such as methanol or hydrochloric acid.
Tester the effectiveness of the back-up plan
Like all Seveso classified sites, the BASF company has set up a Special intervention plan (PPI), aimed at limiting the consequences of a possible industrial accident.
The exercise day scheduled for Tuesday aims to assess its effectiveness by testing its initiation, the organization of relief and the establishment of command structures.
The mermaid will hold back
As part of this simulation, the BASF site siren will sound at 9:30 am. In the event of an industrial accident, this siren is used to signal the danger. Be careful, it will not ring for the end of the exercise.
