“I am still a VfB member”
With a term of office of almost two years, Pellegrino Matarazzo is one of the longest serving coaches in the Bundesliga. The American is firmly in the saddle at VfB Stuttgart. Should there be a change in the near future, the club with Matthias Jaissle could, so to speak, control itself internally.
The ex-professional is the success coach of RB Salzburg, but has a past at VfB. “It was the classic process for me. As a child from the village, I started with the Bambini when I was four, and later on I was spotted by regional scouts, formerly also the VfB,” reports the 33-year-old Stuttgart news. However, he made his breakthrough in professional football at TSG Hoffenheim, to which Ralf Rangnick brought him from the Stuttgart offspring in 2007.
Hütter, Rose and Marsch as role models?
Up to this point it is not yet clear why Jaissle could speak of an internal solution to VfB’s fictional coaching question with a wink. The great talent of coaching itself reveals it: “I am still a member of VfB.” It is obvious that the Bundesliga will one day be interesting for the German coach from Salzburg. It is also shown by the examples of Adi Hütter, Marco Rose and Jesse Marsch. They are united by a connection to Rangnick, which Jaissle also emphasizes.
“Extremely brave, aggressive against and cheeky with the ball”
“He was one of the first to see a coach in me. He was my coach for many years and gave me his perspective on football,” enthuses the former U21 national player about perhaps the most important tactical specialist in Germany. The way of playing in Salzburg is therefore similar to the style that Rangnick once coined in Hoffenheim: “Extremely courageous, aggressive against and cheeky with the ball.” The success proves Jaissle right: In 16 competitive games, the Mozartstadt team won 15 wins and one draw under his guidance.
