Toulouse. Streets in the city center blocked to prepare for the arrival of the 3rd metro line

The preliminary works third metro line are in full swing at Toulouse. From the Monday, October 11, 2021, public works machinery will land in the new sectors of the Pink City and including in the city center.
Drilling and relocation of networks
Those Preliminary activities are carried out as part of pre-project studies for the future metro line. They should make it possible to better understand the nature of the soil where the tunnel boring machines are activated: to do this, boreholes of around fifty meters deep are carried out.
On the other hand, the construction of the future third line requires move some networks located in the basement. In an interview with Toulouse news in June, Jean-Michel Lattes, President of Tisséo explained the need to “free up space” before the project was launched.
“Today, in all the streets of Toulouse, we have multiple concessionaires (water, gas, electricity …) What we are doing is the preliminary work of the concessionaires. We organize the network differently so that it is not in competition with the metro site “.
Around the War Memorial
From October 11, this work will concern several sectors. In the city center, it’s around Francois Verdier that the construction machinery will be installed for at least eight weeks. The works are taking place near the Memorial, but also on the boulevard Lazare Carnot (at the metro entrances) and on the aisles François Verdier.
In this sector, the traffic will be cut off during the day, at the level of rue des Cheminées and some rue du Rempart Saint-Etienne. Deviations will be put in place.
One-way avenue Jean-Rieux
Another neighborhood impacted by these projects Preliminaries: that of Ormeau, where work has already been carried out during the summer. From this Monday, and for three weeks, avenue Jean-Rieux will be one-way in the incoming direction, as will the street Raymond-Corraze.
Deviations will be put in place. The Linéo bus line 8 is maintained, but will be diverted in both directions on this sector. The work is to last three weeks.
Finally in the Jean-Rieux sector, already impacted by the works, the Pradal street pendant will be crossed out five weeks.
Commissioning scheduled for 2028
This phase of preliminary work for the entire third metro line is to be completed at the end of the year. According to the project forecast, the calls for tenders for the construction of the third line will be definitively launched at the end of 2022 and the most substantial works will take place from 2023 to 2025. The first tests of the future third line is due to take place in 2027 and 2028.
The commissioning of this 27 km long line which will serve Colomiers, Blagnac and Toulouse must take place at the end of 2028.
