An organized and itinerant criminal group
The case dates back to April 2021. At that time, report the gendarmes, “an upsurge in thefts of catalytic converters was observed in Occitania”. An investigation is opened, led by the Central Office for the fight against itinerant delinquency (OCLDI), the Occitanie gendarmerie region, and the departmental security of the national police of Toulouse. They identified to identify “an itinerant organized criminal group, originating in Romania”.
To extract metal from catalytic converters
Two months later, on June 11, 2021, a first group is arrested in flagrante delicto, leading to the identification of a network of receivers located in Toulouse and fr Germany.
The net continues at the end of the summer: between August and October 2021, a second team of malefactors is involved in the theft of catalytic converters currently in Germany to extract the allies there at high market value, in this case rhodium and palladium, two white metals.
Eight criminals arrested in France and Germany
Wednesday October 6, as part of a coordinated operation, six criminals are arrested in France, and two others in Germany. The searches allowed “the discovery of stolen catalytic converters, professional tools and documents facilitating the concealment of their activities illegal ”, specifies the gendarmerie. The suspects have all been imprisoned on both sides of the Rhine.
