Russia to donate several thousand Sputnik vaccines to workers at Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh – Society
MOSCOW, October 10. / TASS /. Russia will acquire several thousand doses of the Russian Sputnik coronavirus vaccine for the personnel of the Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. This was announced on Sunday by the General Director of Rosatom Alexei Likhachev on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24“.
“I have a decision of the Russian government to help Bengal personnel with vaccines. Several thousand Sputnik vaccines have been allocated, we will soon deliver them here, to the site,” he said, Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina opened on Sunday the ceremony of assembling the reactor vessel for the Rooppur nuclear power plant, which is being built by Russia in Bangladesh. Like Rosatom, the installation of a reactor vessel in the design position is a closed event during the construction of an NPP power unit. After the completion of the installation of the reactor vessel, the countdown begins until the stage of physical start-up – the beginning of loading nuclear fuel into the reactor.
The first NPP in the republic “Rooppur” is being built on the eastern bank of the Padma River, 160 km from the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka. The station is being designed and built according to the Russian project of the “3+” generation. The design and construction of the facility is carried out by the engineering division of Rosatom. The plant will consist of two power units with VVER-1200 reactors, the life cycle of which is 60 years with an extension of the service life for another 20 years. Currently, the construction of the first and second power units is underway.
