Coronavirus rallies took place again at the weekend. This time, skeptics are gathering in Basel and Geneva.
the essentials in brief
- Corona rallies in Basel and Geneva remained peaceful.
- In each of the cities there were 3,000 skeptics.
- The protests in Basel were led by the Freiheitstrychlers.
The weekend was marked by protests against the corona measures taken by the federal government and the cantons. Around 3,000 people each gather for a rally in Basel and Geneva. The events were peaceful. In Basel, the police were able to prevent a confrontation with counter-demonstrators.
The opponents of the opponents of the coronavirus
The police-approved demonstration march in Basel was led by around 30 “Freiheitstrychlern”. The participants marched from De Wette-Park at the SBB train station along the large shopping streets past the Wettstein Bridge.
There is a threat of a confrontation with an unauthorized counter-demonstration. It comes from the environment of the group “Basel nazifrei”, who had gathered on the other side of the bridge.
Around 200 counter-demonstrators had previously formed in Kleinbasel. They wanted to set an example against what they believed was a fascist infiltration of opposition to measures. However, they were stopped by the police at the Wettstein Bridge, whereupon the participants withdrew.
The very colorful demonstration of opposition to protective measures and vaccinations then moved on through the old town of Kleinbasel to the exhibition center. The rally ends around 4.30 p.m. on the Rosentalanlage there.
«Freedom, freedom!» chanted around 3,000 demonstrators in Geneva and called for the resignation of Federal Councilor and Health Minister Alain Berset, among other things. They started on Place de Neuve in the old town and moved to Place des Nations on the opposite side of the Rhone.
Rejection of the Covid Act
Numerous Swiss flags fluttered in the demonstration, and posters were carried with them denouncing the “Certificate of Shame”. They read: “No to the Covid certificate, no to blackmail and yes to a return to common sense”.
Several speakers took the floor on Place de Neuve calling for the rejection of the Covid-19 law, which will be voted on on November 28th. The approved demonstration was peaceful.
Because they were caught at the Swiss border without an entry form, returning travelers recently paid almost 200 buses at 100 francs. The Federal Customs Administration confirmed a corresponding report in the “Sunday newspaper”. Since the introduction of the provision on September 20, around 880,000 of these online forms from the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) have been used.
The Federal Council had decided on this regulation to prevent Covid-19 infections after the autumn break. After the end of the summer vacation, the number of corona cases skyrocketed.
Third vaccination soon
According to the Zurich infectiologist Huldrych Günthard, the corona pandemic should be over next summer. The prerequisite for this is that even more people get vaccinated and those who have not been vaccinated die. This does not apply worldwide, but only for those countries that have a vaccination available. Günthard said this in an interview with the “Sunday newspaper”.
Another prerequisite is that no new variants appear, the vaccination is of no use against death, says Günthard. He pleads for an early vaccination. There are already more and more vaccine breakthroughs.
If Switzerland only starts such booster vaccinations at the end of the year, it will create stress for the vaccination centers again. That shouldn’t be repeated.
