35-year-old cartoonist, screenwriter and publisher from Rouen, specializing in comics, Remi Pielot will open on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Caen (Calvados), a workshop where he will learn to draw and script comics or manga. Overview of this original project, in interview.
News: Why open a second Atelier Pielot, after the one in Rouen?
Remi Pielot: I live in Rouen but I was born, I grew up, studied modern letters and perfected my drawing in Caen. My parents live in the southern outskirts and I store copies of my Walter Débarque en Normandie album that I published on June 6 there. So I come there regularly. Finally, the waiting list at my Rouen comic strip workshop, which has 4 weekly sessions and 48 registered, leads me to believe that there is demand.
What do we learn at Atelier Pielot?
Cartoonist, at the head of the Pielot workshop in Caen: I teach my students to draw and script comics or manga, to develop their style, up to, for some, presenting an album project to publishers. They can also prepare for entry into a school with a comic or manga specialization. I propose common exercises then dedicated exercises.
Who comes to Atelier Pielot?
Cartoonist, at the head of the Pielot workshop in Caen: The big fans of comics are generally between 10 and 18 years old. My students must go beyond their status as readers through creation, even professionalization. But they have to keep in mind that creating a comic book or a manga requires a lot of work. In addition, they often come up with a fairly complex project, inspired by their readings. I therefore propose to them to rework their character, to simplify it to make their project accessible.
Is there a common end-of-year project?
Cartoonist, at the head of the Pielot workshop in Caen: Yes. Students looking for it three to five pages in the year-end publication. In 2022, the cover will be by Stanislas Barthélémy, cartoonist of the Adventures of Hergé in comics and sponsor of Atelier Pielot. The collection can be read in both directions, BD or manga, and reveals in the central pages an interview with the sponsor by the students.
